Book Synopsis

HE SAYS . . .

I, Aidan the Divine, am, well divine. My name was given to me by the Dragon Queen herself! I’m a delight! Cheerful. Charming. And a mighty warrior who is extremely handsome with a very large and well-hidden hoard of gold. I am also royal born, despite the fact that most in my family are horrendous beings that don’t deserve to live. And yet, Branwen the Awful—a low-born, no less—either tells me to shut up or, worse, ignores me completely.

SHE SAYS . . .

I’ll admit, I ignore Aidan the Divine because it annoys him. A lot. But, we have so much to do right now, I can’t worry about why he keeps staring at me, or why he always sits so close, or why he keeps looking at me like he’s thinking about kissing me. We have our nations to save and no time for such bloody foolishness . . . no matter how good Aidan looks or how long his spiked tail is. Because if we’re going to win this war before it destroys everything we love, we’ll have to face our enemies together, side by side and without distractions. But if we make it out alive, who knows what the future will hold . . .

I haven't laughed this spontaneously in a long time. G.A. Aiken can have my money any time she wants it. This is the culmination of the blind god wars and G.A. Aiken at her funniest. The race to get to the Southlands to either rescue Ren (the adored youngest son of the Southland Empress) or kill off the entire Southland clan is full of missteps and fun. The dialogue is sharp, witty, and fast-paced. The end of the book was quintessential Aiken and I loved every minute.

**Received ARC from NetGalley for a fair and honest review** Bring the Heat is book 9 in the Dragon Kin series- Aiden the Divine and Branwen (AKA Brannie) the Awful's story. This book can be read as a standalone, however I typically think the books are best read in order. Though the author does a good job of letting you know who each of the characters are, and you see some of their personalities, you don't get as much if you don't read the previous stories. This is the hardest review I've ever done on a book. I love this series and have read every book this author writes and under her other name also. I couldn't wait to read this book, and I was so disappointed in this book. First, if I wouldn't have known that it was a romance book, I would have had no idea until after 50% of the way through the book that it was one. The story jumps around so much that it was hard to know what was going on, and the romance was an after thought. It did not feel like the premise for the book, there was more about the other characters in the story then there were about the H&h. I did enjoy Aiden and Branwen as characters, but again, the story didn't feel like it was about them. I always enjoy the humor in the books, and there is a fair amount of it in this book. The humor and the last 25-30% of the book is why I rated it at 3 stars. The book jumped around less, and it started to close out the story line. I did feel like the ending of the story just stopped which was frustrating also since the story between Aiden and Branwen was so limited. Though this story didn't do much for me, I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Hope this helps! Happy Reading!!!

Bring the Heat is a fabulously fun adventure. The true genius that is G.A. Aiken’s imagination boggles my mind. She manages to provide a non-stop, action packed adventure that is raw and gritty but infuses it with a huge shot of humor. All the while making the completely fictional and off the wall characters relatable, lovable and humanized! A.D.D. at its finest! Reading Bring the Heat is like a boot camp work out, it gets your blood pumping, pulse pounding and heart racing with its intense action, steamy romances and white finger reading...I can't put them down. I received this ARC copy of Bring the Heat from Kensington Books - Zebra. This is my honest and voluntary review.
