Book Synopsis

He left KoRn to help himself. He went back to help others. And along the way, he nearly lost everything.

A life-changing spiritual awakening freed Brian “Head” Welch from a stranglehold of drugs and alcohol and prompted him to leave the highly successful nu-metal band KoRn in 2005. What followed was a decade-long trial by fire, from the perils of fathering a teen lost in depression and self-mutilation to the harsh realities of playing solo and surviving the shattering betrayal of a trusted friend. In this intensely inspiring redemption saga, perhaps most inspiring is Brian’s radical decision to rejoin KoRn and reconcile with the tribe of people he once considered family in the metal music scene.

Brian returned to his musical roots with a clear head and a devoted heart. Though his story is wild, hilarious, and deeply poignant, the message is simple: God will love you into the freedom of being yourself, as long as you keep the relationship going and never, ever quit.

What an amazing testimony of how Gods love is for us. God will use us all if we let Him in to do His works. I could not stop reading your book Brian. Thank you for your open heart into your life and sharing the struggles that you walked through with His grace. We are strengthened through fire and you brother are an example of walking through the fire and coming out the other side a better man and humbling yourself to our Father. A man out there in the trenches fighting the good fight, leading others to His Kingdom so they may change their family tree for generations to come.

Wow. Rarely am I blown away, by anything, let alone a biography. That's two for two now Brian. Very well written, I was caught up in their lives in just a few lines. Brian's honest and raw retelling of the ups and downs he endured along the way back to KoRn in With My Eyes Wide Open is awe inspiring. Brian's struggles as a single parent trying to raise a child in this world almost mirror my own, it was gut wrenching and heartbreaking at times to read of his daughter, Jennea's, pain. I was often brought to tears, first of sorrow as I was swept up in empathy for this amazing family, and then of absolute joy for the grace God poured upon them! My smile couldn't have been any bigger! God is good, all the time, even when we can't see it. Brian's testimony truly captures the honesty of a soul walking with Christ through this world. We are sinners full of dark nasty sin and we need to be purged of that. This process hurts. If it happened all at once it might kill us, but through the grace of God we are alive, and come out on the other side of each trial more alive, until we are truly living! The author reminds the reader that faith is internal, it is trust in its truest form. For even when we can't see it at all, if we keep believing God can and WILL come through. It isn't a coincidence that things come to us just when we are in the proper place to receive and handle them. God has perfect timing. Thank you Brian for once again baring it all to share God's glory and to let people know that they are not alone in their struggles! I highly recommend this to everyone!

So far this is such a great read, as I'm not done it yet. Back then, I had just known that Brian had left to get his life and his health back in order. But you never know what ACTUALLY happened in that course of time until today. This is a true story of perseverance. He reaches the highest of highs and the lowest of lows and now he's sitting on the highest mountain possible. He's a healthy and happy human being. He's a proud FATHER most of all. I've never been religious what so ever in my lifetime and watching as well as reading thing like this has seriously made me think about potentially going to a church because of the influence that it has had on Brian's life, though I haven't had nearly the amount of adversity as Brian has (Knock on wood). I've been watching Brian's journey back to KoRn for like a year now, even though I knew he was back, almost daily. Kind of creepy, I know. But Brian has been one of my favorite musicians ever and I'm super proud of him for the things he's overcome in his life! Congratulations on your successful reincarnation, congrats on regaining control of your life, congrats on being able to continue your career, and congrats on general. You should be proud of yourself! This is an awesome read! Now to listen to Lo Lamento and Love and Meth ;)

I could read this book over and over again (and I will)! A story of pain, betrayal, hurt and the ability to overcome the obstacles of life through faith. The hero in this story isn't Brian Welch, it's his heart and God's ability to transform ANY situation.

I was lucky to be able to get an early copy of this. It is amazing all the things Brian and Jennea went through and still his faith is unwavering to this day. I highly recommend this book and hope that it helps someone who might be struggling and help them persevere.
